Installation of counter balance free standing guard rail at 85 colmore row birmingham

In March we we’re instructed by our client to install a safety rail around the perimeter of the roof at 85 colmore row in Birmingham city centre. It was a great day for it, clear blue skies and nice and warm! the rail used was a counter balance system which proves very effective when installed correctly.

The method statements and risk assessments were completed the day before so on arrival bright and early we could get straight to it. First job was to safely get all of the materials up onto the roof using the service corridors and lift as using a crane was not viable at this location. Secondly lay out all the rail and components in assembly order and at the same time check everything against the paperwork, 2 jobs done in one!

Next up and most definitely easier than getting everything up on the roof was the assembly of the rail, our experienced maintenance engineers got stuck in and completed the job on time, they even missed rush hour traffic on the M6 !! another job done as well as possible, as quickly as possible.
